Molson Coors Brewing is closing their brewery in Edmonton, Alberta.
Workers part of a union went on strike last May, and the plant has ceased operations since. Molson Coors expects that the closure will eliminate 136 jobs. Other facilities in Canada will pick up the extra work to avoid any disruption in supply. Molson Coors will record a non-cash impairment charge of about $37 million before taxes associated with the change. The company says there also will be undetermined costs associated with terminating employees at the brewery. The plant supplied beer for Molson Canada, and accounted for less than 10 percent of their total annual production.
