Many people don't like to shell out a few extra dollars for premium beer. Imagine paying $503,300.00 for one beer.
A bottle of Allsopp's Artic Ale sold for $503,300 on eBay. If the beer is authentic, it may be the oldest beer in the world. The beer is from an 1852 Artic expedition to search for the lost explorer Sir John Franklin. We're not sure how good of an idea it is to take beer on a rescue mission to the Artic, but it was 1852. DWI (Dog-sledding While Intoxicated) was not known to be illegal at the time.
Allsopp's Artic Ale
The bottle appears to be museum quality. The bottles of artic brew were made for Sir Edward Belcher by Samuel Allsopp. Belcher required a beer that could be "taken to sub-zero temperatures, and would provide some nutritional value". It isn't clear if the beer made the grade for Belcher's requirements. The beer was reportedly taken on the Artic expedition and then to back to England.
