Actually, Tequila is a type of mezcal. It comes from the blue agave —Tequilana weber— which is endemic of the Tequila region, in the state of Jalisco. Tequila is NOT the name of the beverage, but of its Denomination of Origin. It's like saying: Bordeaux and its close cousin, the wine.

I'm not 100% positive of this, but my understanding is that alcohol dilates your capillaries, bringing more blood to the surface of your skin, and that is what makes you feel warm, or in some people's cases, have flushed cheeks. So while it does ACTUALLY make you warmer in the short term, that heat is lost to the environment, and that's why it could be a dangerous thought to keep yourself warm on liquor instead of going inside. :P

"Alcohol destroys brain cells and makes you stupid"

I have been told this again and again I really thought it was true? surely alcohol has some affect on brain cells as it is a substance that easily passes through the brain barrier?

Actually from http://www.nytimes.com/2004/11/23/health/23real... :

"...Dr. Roberta J. Pentney, a former researcher at the State University of New York at Buffalo, found that alcohol disrupts brain function in adults by damaging message-carrying dendrites on neurons in the cerebellum, a structure involved in learning and motor coordination. This reduces communication between neurons, alters their structure and causes some of the impairment associated with intoxication. It does not kill off entire cells, however."

The damage to dendrites is not permanent... "According to researchers such as Roberta J. Pentney, professor of anatomy and cell biology at the University at Buffalo, this damage is mostly reversible." (http://health.howstuffworks.com/10-brain-myths.htm) So I wouldn't worry too much about the dendrites either unless you're an alcoholic.

Alcohol does not kill brain cells but rather damages dendrites--the branched ends of nerve cells that bring messages into the cell. Meaning it does make you stupider in large amounts. You only got that half right.
